Ian originally studied politics before moving on to study popular music at Liverpool University and Jazz at Birmingham Conservatoire. He performs regularly throughout the country in a variety of different bands and contexts and is respected for his versatility. As well as teaching Ian is an active composer and leads his own contemporary jazz trio and quartet.
He signed with Big Help Music in 2023 to further his songwriting and singing development and In December 2023 his debut single with BHM, a Christmas ballad called ‘Adorable Ghost’ gained a No.1 spot in the UK jazz charts.
His musical tastes and influences are broad from Jamaican blue beat, ska and reggae to American jazz, soul and funk, and hip hop.
Ian wants to share his positive message of hope, inclusion, and transformation through his music and experiences.
